Tasting Notes
The 2021 Clos Baltasar was produced with Garnacha from two old vineyards - Matallana in the village of Atea on red schist soils at 950 meters in altitude and Buitrón in Acered on clay and quartzite soils at 1,000 meters above sea level. It fermented with 40% full clusters and the rest uncrushed grapes in concrete vats and matured in a combination of concrete eggs and 3,000-liter oak foudre for 10 months. This is still a little oaky but less so than last time, and it has a medium to full-bodied palate, a juicy mouthfeel, abundant, fine-grained tannins and a spicy finish. Drink date: 2023-2028.
