The Meursault Grands Charrons from Pierre Vincent's new domaine is fabulously good, with a classic Meursault richness of ripe apples, butter and hazelnut, but there is complexity as well, with a bit of smoky reduction and a firm, mineral underpinning. The texture is supple and elegant, avoiding heaviness at all costs. The former owners, Domaine des Terres des Velle, used to blend this fruit into the village Meursault, but Vincent bottles these 15 ares separately since they are the oldest vines of the estate, planted in red clay soils in 1929.
