Pio Cesare was not only the first producer in the Langhe to plant Chardonnay, doing so in the 1980s when everyone else was focused e xclusively on Nebbiolo, but the gamble produced a wine that has become one of Piedmont's most quietly celebrated whites. This Langhe Chardonnay opens with white nectarine, toasted hazelnut, acacia blossom, and a cool mineral thread, then delivers a rich, oak-aged palate of lemon curd and apricot with a long, textured finish and bright food-friendly acidity. Fifth-generation Federica Boffa now leads this historic Alba estate, founded by Cesare Pio in 1881 in the heart of the Langhe.
